What is
considered
additional work?
WE can paint a
previously
painted model
but it must be
stripped first.
At best old
paint will only
add to the
overall
thickness and
start to hide
delicate
details. We will
not paint over
existing paint.
Stripping
charges depend
on the size and
to some extent
type of old
paint.
Stripping charge
– typically
$100.00 but can
go up to $250.00
If additional
colors are
desired it
usually means
additional
masking.
Interior colors
are considered
additional
colors. Charges
range between
75.00 and 125.00
depending on the
size of the
model and the
amount of
masking time
required.
Brass repairs.
We handle your
model with the
utmost care but
parts still come
off. Also it is
possible that
you are not
aware of loose,
broken, or
missing parts.
Occasionally
models have been
repaired
incorrectly and
must be
corrected. All
of this work
will be
performed with
your approval at
35.00 per hour.
We will resist
painting an
incorrectly
repaired model
or a model known
to be missing
parts. We can
search for parts
at 35.00 an hour
but cannot
guarantee
success in
finding such
parts.
Weathering is
not part of a
standard paint
job. Weathering
is as much a
matter of
personal taste
as fine art is
and it is the
only part of
locomotive
service we
consider
anything close
to art. We ask
that you study
the photos on
this page to
decide whether
our style of
weathering is to
your liking. One
client decided,
after the fact,
that our
weathering was
not convincing.
Whew! A matter
of taste…
We have one
charge for
freelance
weathering –
75.00. Doesn’t
matter to what
degree you want
it; a mere
suggestion of
dust or the
quintessential
rust bucket.
We have another
charge for
customized
weathering –
where we use
photos to copy a
particular
prototype –
150.00. Again it
doesn’t matter
to what degree.
Custom Color
Mixing. We use
Scale Coat I
because we
consider it the
best product for
the job. But
there is a limit
to the colors
available. We
charge 25.00 to
mix a color that
has already been
formulated. We
charge 100.00
for a color that
must be
researched and a
formula devised.
Custom Decals.
Sometimes the
right set just
isn’t available
in the correct
scale. We now
offer a custom
decal service.
Our fee is based
on the quote
provided by our
artist. It will
include
preparation of
the artwork plus
the cost of
setup and
printing. This
is not a vending
service but
rather a means
of finishing
your model and
is available
only in
conjunction with
a paint job by 7th
Street Shops.
Custom Striping.
We offer two
types of custom
striping. The
first type uses
water slide
decals. This
type of striping
will be charged
at an hourly
rate of $35.00.
This will
include painting
decal Trim sheet
material and
cutting the
striping by
hand. The second
type of striping
is to paint the
color onto the
model. This is a
tedious task
that requires
good masking
skills. First,
this is
considered an
additional color
even if the
engine is
painted only one
color. In
addition to the
color charge we
will bill the
job by the hour
after the first
hour of masking.
In other words
painted stripes,
as an additional
color, will be
charged $75.00.
Then any time
after the first
hour of masking
will be added to
that charge. For
example, it may
take 3 hours to
mask the stripes
for one color.
The color charge
would be $75.00.
The second and
third hour of
masking would be
charged the
hourly rate of
$35.00 or in
this case
$70.00. The
total for this
color of
striping would
be $145.00
Note that items
charged by the
hourly rate are
subject to the
real time of the
task and
override any
approximations
found on an
estimate.
(Approximations
are estimated on
the high side in
an effort to not
exceed the
estimate – it’s
a lot easier to
tell you “it
didn’t take as
long” rather
than “it took
longer than we
thought”.)
